Mallacoota weather

Given our interest in weather, and the amount of time we spend outdoors when we go to Mallacoota, I am surprised I have never really investigated the weather data in that area,  So here we go!

The starting point was the Bureau of Meteorology Climate Data Online service (hereafter BoM).  I have basically used the variables delivered under Monthly Weather and Climate, except for 2016 values where I have used the appropriate Daily tables.

Rainfall

I will begin, as usual for my weather musings with rainfall.  I have included two measures of average rainfall: the mean (simple arithmetic average) and the median (value above which 50% of readings fall).  As expected the median is a little below the mean.  The third (green) line are the values for 2016 showing unusually high falls in June and September but low values in February, April and August.
My second analysis is to compare the means for Mallacoota and Carwoola.  In essence Mallacoota gets more rainfall than Carwoola with a peak in Autumn rather than Summer.

Temperature

Starting with mean maximum temperatures,  Mallacoota shows less variation through the year than Carwoola, being cooler Summer and warmer in Winter.  Which is of course just what one would expect with a more maritime climate.  Looking at 2016 for Mallacoota it is remarkably close to the mean.
Mean minimum temperatures possibly show the greatest difference, with Carwoola well below Mallacoota in every month.  Again in 2016 Mallacoota is pretty much on average.

 Humidity

As a result of a passing comment by a friend I have regarded a relative humidity of 40% as 'normal' for Carwoola at 3pm (or 1500 Hrs).  In fact for most months it is well below normal.  It does appear that for Mallacoota an rH of 60 - 70% is the average throughout the year.
