Woody Weeds may also look attractive

As well as the native plants often featured in this blog, some of the introduced species can have some appeal.  Our drive is, like many others in the area, lined with Pinus radiata.  This has a major benefit of attracting Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos to the block which offsets the image of these trees as a weed (which epithet largely arises when native vegetation is felled for pine plantations).

A second benefit of this species is that the trees do look pleasant when the young growths shoots are evident.
Where the drive crosses Whiskers Creek a row of Willows had been planted. IN the main these not too despicable: the one crack-willow was killed off with glyphosate and then uprooted during our drive renovations.  These trees seem to attract Crimson Rosellas for some reason: possibly the shoots are nutritious.  In Spring they are covered in catkins
.. which attract a lot of bees as well as being pleasant to look at.
